The first "Paradise Express" drag car was a 1967 sedan that Scott Lauffer began racing in 1980. Through the years we have progressed through many different combinations of cars, each one being quicker than the previous. In 1990 we acquired our first dragster and thus began an entirely new goal for the VW Paradise team. We wanted to be the quickest and fastest quarter mile VW ever! We are now proudly campaigning our 7th generation of VW dragster which continues to hold the World Record with a 6.60 @ 203.94 MPH quarter-mile. The quickest & fastest quarter-mile run so far has been a 6.53 at 209.98 MPH. We also hold the eighth-mile record with a pass of 4.58 seconds at 161.29 MPH. The quickest & fastest eight-mile ever has been 4.19 @ 171.01.

The VW Paradise street cars are nearly as well known in the VW industry as is our record setting dragster. Jason and Kris each drive street cars which are capable of regularly turning mid 10 second passes at nearly 130 mph. We are proud of the fact that Kris's convertible is the worlds first street licensed VW to run a 9 second pass, (9.93 @ 133mph - March 2003)! We also have helped several other locals build 10 second street cars. With VW Paradise in town, is it any wonder that North San Diego County is the home for the fastest VW street cars in the world...

While our race team is primarily family with Jason as crew-chief, Kris as the engine builder/driver and Scott as the financier and transport driver we couldn't be as successful without the efforts of our friends. Jason Baker is at each race and is responsible for the fuel for each pass and helping maintain the car between rounds. Phil Brown is also part of the Paradise Express crew known as the "ice man". He packs and maintains the intercooler and also repacks the parachute. Gene Conaway is the culinary artist who keeps the crew extremely well feed and fueled at all events. Of course there are many other friends and family who help out between races and at the track. Each one of our members is a valuable part of the team.
